$5.99
DOUBLE-SIDED PRINT AD
Two fascinating pieces of American transportation history on one original vintage magazine page!
SIDE ONE — THE PULLMAN COMPANY (1938)
Travel America by rail in comfort, style, and safety!
This original 1938 advertisement promotes The Pullman Company and the pleasures of passenger rail travel during the golden age of American railroading.
Pullman sleeping cars were synonymous with comfortable long-distance travel, offering passengers an elegant alternative to ordinary railroad accommodations.
SIDE TWO — THE LUXURY DIESEL YACHT CAROLINE II
An extraordinary 1938 advertisement offering a millionaire’s yacht for sale!
The reverse features a period sales advertisement for the Caroline II, an American-built luxury diesel yacht launched in 1931.
Among its remarkable features was an advertised cruising range of approximately 10,000 nautical miles on a single fueling.
A LITTLE MARITIME HISTORY
The Caroline II was built by Bath Iron Works in Maine for Eldridge R. Johnson, founder of the Victor Talking Machine Company.
The yacht was sold in 1938 and renamed Moana.
But her story didn’t end there!
In 1941, the vessel was acquired by the United States Navy and subsequently commissioned as USS Hilo (PG-58) in June 1942. She served during World War II as a motor torpedo boat tender.
This makes the 1938 yacht advertisement an especially interesting example of the vessel’s civilian history before its military service.
